I am currently a Ph.D. student in philosophy at the University of Waterloo, with interests in the history of philosophy (particularly ancient), philosophy of mathematics, philosophy of language, and logics. I am also interested in exploring the interplay among logic, language, and law.

I hold the B.Math. (Waterloo, 1988), M.Div. (Canadian Theological Seminary, now Ambrose University College, 1996) and M.A. degrees (Waterloo, 2009).

I began studying philosophy that went beyond the manipulation of logical symbols at the University of Calgary in 2005. I’ve spent 15 years designing software at Nortel, I’ve had an e-mail address since 1981, and I’ve been playing with computers since 1979. Together with my wife Shelly I am a keeper of a varying number of cats, a few serviceable computers, more books than we can shelve, and several vitality-impaired houseplants.

I am working on the first research area component of the doctoral program, and am teaching an introductory course in philosophy during the winter 2012 term.
